Skating Polly's new single ‘Flyer verbalises the feeling of being stuck in places, situations, your own head and overwhelming inability to escape. Even when nothing stands in your way but you. And all you want to do to is fly. Fly far away.

Skating Polly, a genre-bending eclectic punk rock act with indie pop tendencies and cheeky Riot Grrrl turns, was formed by multi-instrumentalists from Oklahoma, Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse, later joined by Kurtis Mayo. Since 2009 they’ve released five studio albums, collaborated with Nina Gordon and Louise Post of Veruca Salt and been compared bands such as Bikini Kill or Beat Happening.

‘‘Flyer’ is about this overwhelming self-consciousness and agoraphobia that’s been hitting me a lot lately,’ Kelicommented on the track which starts off with gently easy-going melody and sugar-coated, dreamy vocals that gradually gain the power to struck with full-on punk 'don't leave me' shout. General playfulness of pop parts is balanced with psycho-grungy sections that make it quite abstract, and beautiful with its contradictions, composition.

It’s a song that traps you in a circle of the loss of interest in breaking free and random bursts of energy that push you to make a change, wreck the cage. And the only way of escaping seems to be through the process of acceptance and self-realisation as the lyrics go ‘I've had more than enough time to know what I felt is not a thought crime.’

Skating Polly has made some noise and is about to get louder with their upcoming UK tour this fall.
