Leicester’s Spacetoast are set to release new single ‘Hate You’ this Thursday; if you haven’t heard the band play before (for a start why haven’t you!) then this song is the one that should drag you out your house to a local venue in the coming months.

‘Hate You’ is instantly a tune from when you hit play to the last second of the 3 minutes and 49 second song, notably bubblier in its instrumentation than previous releases such as ‘Truncheon 25’, however don’t be fooled for there’s no substance or grit lost here. A chorus ending with ‘I’m doing fine on my own now’ and lyrics such as ‘Lately It seems I’m stuck on rewind’ will leave you reflecting on how messy things can really be sometimes; at least you’ve got this track to go along with this.

With cleverly written lyrics and catchy melodies, Spacetoast are slowly climbing the ranks of the scene with them often coming up in conversations on who the best bands in the scene are at the moment. The band seems to have crept up on us slowly and now we can’t get enough with live performances that could rival bigger bands of the same genre.

When speaking on the track frontman and guitarist Dan Hewitt says:

“Hate You is about a few different things; the main theme is how messy my life can be and how stressed it can make me feel at times. It’s also about how this song has helped me to step back and put it all into perspective and realise nothing is ever really as bad as it seems.

" I used happy sounding chords and riffs to create a positive feel to pair with the positive outlook I was trying to achieve with this song, all the while discussing things happening in my life that perhaps weren’t so positive – trying to show how I have come to terms with all the negative shit happening and how really it’s not all that bad.”

That’s exactly what ‘Hate You’ is; a track that really reflects the idea that things are never as bad as they seem with Hewitt singing with emotion in his voice on his current state and feelings towards situations out of his control, complimented In a cacophony of bright sounding chords and uplifting drums.

‘Hate You’ is the first track to not be recorded and produced in Hewitt’s front room, with the band sounding more refined and eclectic Hewitt says:

“We recorded this single in a Studio in Nottingham called Rainy Daze Records where bands such as The Wytches and Crosa Rosa have recorded. It’s a brilliant place and the guys there are really chilled, and we had great fun recording on that day.”

Continuing with:

“I Decided I wanted to write a song that was just really catchy and would get stuck in people’s heads and hopefully that’s what I’ve managed to do with this new single.  Really all we want is for people to just enjoy the music that we create and play.”

This track is a captivating one and ready to leave listeners wondering what’s next to come from the band with the Spacetoast already gaining a spin on a BBC introducing show. Spacetoast are a band really doing bits for the local scene at the moment, (and dare we say) are currently at the forefront of a growing wave of young talent coming up at the moment.

Once called a college band Spacetoast are now so much more than that and now is your time to catch them.

‘Hate You’ by Spacetoast is set for release on the 22ndof August 2019 on all major streaming platforms.

Catch them play Leicester’s 02 Academy this September 6th.
