BADLAWS, newest single ‘Break’, takes us on the fuelled on confusion trip inside a post-breakdown mind in search of answers and makes us want to stay forever in this glorious mess.
Four-piece Brighton band consisting of Lucy Hinton (vocals), Daniel Bright (guitar), Travis Powers (bass) and Josh Caplin (drums) and managed by Dusty Studio Productions, is not new to the local music scene, as they’ve released two singles and a self-titled debut EP so far. BADLAWS' brand and sound are definitely influenced by the bands’ favourites: Don Broco, Bloc Party and YONAKA, it is an eclectic, too unique to attach to only one label, a mix of alternative rock and heavy riffs with dance/pop-like melodic quality.
Sometimes being imperfect is what makes you perfect. That is the case when it comes to ‘Break’. The track takes a bit of a different turn from the group’s previous releases. It’s heavier and balances surprisingly well on the edge of the harmony and the chaos.
Hinton's voice blends in with, dirtier than usual, riffs and heartbeat-like drums to create the sense of wholeness while listening to the tune. ‘Break’ is an emotionally-charged bullet and the portrait of the ‘too tired to care’ attitude as the lyrics go "you can break everything that you have, destroy your own mind" and "I don’t give a damn." And even after hearing Hinton repeatedly singing, "tell me if it’s over", we do hope the track is not over yet. It’s the best one that BADLAWS have got.
The single has been released on March 1st and will be promoted with a Single Release Tour across England.
