Knice are a band of punx that are coming for your ears with no mercy, you don’t want to miss them. Here’s what happened when we got talking about their debut album and their love for Hanson.
Introduce yourselves and what you all play.
I’m George and I play guitar.
Hey I’m Harry and I play bass.
I’m Frank and I play the flute.
I’m Ant and I play the bongos.
You’re a heavy band what would you say your influences are?
Liza Minelli
Hanson
And my dad.
If we were talking music/sound wise what would you say rather than life inspirations like Hanson?
The big one for us is Black Flag probably, early Wire stuff as well. The Crucifucks is a big one for me and early stuff coming out of LA. We’re into a lot of noise stuff so a lot of it is us trying to learn how to un-play a lot of punk. ObviouslyFugazi, Talking heads for the weirdness as well.
Knice is Leicester based, how do you feel about the music scene at the moment?
I think that the punk scene is very close knit and mostly just goes around one kind of venue. There’s a lot of concentrated groups and a very strong sort of Indie, Shoegazey, post punky, alternative scene going on in Leicester, clearly the Punk scene as well. There’s just bits going on in between. I think honestly the best genre going on here at the moment is Jazz. There’s some really cool Jazz stuff going on. We’ve done a few hardcore shows but I think we want to do less of those, like tonight it’s not all hardcore punk stuff. We want to spread our wings.
Do you feel like you do get pigeon holed a lot as a band? I think we pigeon hole ourselves by calling ourselves hardcore garage punx. Like you know exactly what you’re getting. But I think If people were just to see us live they’d be so into it because we are a party band. We’re not all hardcore anyway, we’ve got bits here and there. I think in our first record we’re spreading out into different genres. Even though it’s not been released yet!
You mentioned your new record when can we expect to be able to hear it?
It’s twelve tracks and probably out in about two months we’re trying to see if any labels want to pick it up. So if you’re reading this interview please pick us up. But yeah we’ll be dropping some singles. It’s all mastered and ready to go but we’ve got to do the artwork and shit.
Can you tell us what it’s called?
It’s called ‘Hit the Showers’ which will become clear as to why when it comes out.
You can end this interview any way you want what are you going to say?
Ant looks like Hanson.
