29/09/18 The Cookie

Drips are a band that will sweep you off of your feet in a swirl of dreamy melody that you won’t ever want to leave the comfort of.
They are a band that can’t be put in the confines of a specific genre, exploring sound and attitudes on and off stage.
The Cookie’s basement couldn’t have been more perfect for a band like Drips, a space packed out with an audience so energetic that they found it within themselves to crowd surf and sit on each other’s shoulders, despite scraping their heads against the basements low ceiling.
From the moment the band played their first song to their last, I genuinely felt in constant awe of them and found myself falling in love with the way that they somehow filled a room with an eclectic mix of dreamy guitar lines and vocals so filled with emotion you become effulged in your own little bubble. Drips are a breath of fresh air peeking out from the shadows.
Drips have a stage presence of a punk band, this may sound mad if you have listened to their music and haven’t had the chance to catch them live yet, as they are not a band yelling anarchy, but as frontman Jack Birtwistle hangs off of the rigging, stands on the drum kit and lets the crowd hold him and sing into his microphone he does it just as well as anyone. This is a band doing what they want and how they want to do it, not making themselves fit into a neat little box.
After what felt like a whirlwind set, over in what felt like five minutes, nobody wanted it to end. As the audience scream for an encore in a dark basement in Leicester, ready to be whisked away for three more minutes, Drips re-build their now destroyed drum kit strewn across the floor and play one more song.
Drips really are a band embodying the belief that music is what you make it
